The Marijuana Repeal Ballot Campaign Says Legalization Amplified Teen Marijuana Use. Experts Aren’t So Sure.
The Boston Globe, September 18, 2026
The campaign behind a ballot question to repeal legal recreational cannabis in Massachusetts says it is responding, in part, to a threat of higher marijuana use among teens.
But data indicates legalization hasn’t lead to a major increase in usage rates among underage young people. With the repeal question coming before voter in November, many experts said they feel conflicted.
“I’m not a fan of how things have gone down in Massachusetts, but I don’t think that repealing everything is going to be a panacea,” said Dr. Kevin Hill, director of addition psychiatry of Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center and a professor at Harvard Medical School.
